Police operatives in Nasarawa State have dismantled suspected kidnappers’ hideouts in Lafia, arresting six suspects and rescuing three abducted victims during a joint operation with local vigilante groups.
The operation was carried out by officers attached to the Assakio Division, who stormed criminal hideouts located in Angara and Fadaman Bauna villages within the Lafia East Development Area of Lafia Local Government Area.
The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
According to him, the operation followed a complaint lodged on January 7, 2026, which reported that suspected kidnappers had invaded Angara village and abducted two females, leaving behind an infant. The assailants were also said to have later kidnapped a male victim from the same community.
“Acting on this information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed, immediately ordered a manhunt for the perpetrators,” Nansel said. “The directive culminated in the successful arrest of the suspects and the rescue of the victims.”
He added that the three victims—two females and one male—were rescued unhurt, promptly given medical attention, and reunited with their families.
Nansel further disclosed that the six suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on the directive of the Commissioner of Police for thorough investigation and prosecution.
The police spokesperson said CP Mohammed has assured residents of Nasarawa State of the command’s sustained offensive against kidnapping and other forms of criminality, noting that the police would continue to work with local communities to ensure safety and security across the state.
