The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has appealed to members of the public to assist in locating a TikTok user who recently alleged that she was raped in her apartment by a stranger.
The agency made the appeal in a statement shared on its official social media platforms on Tuesday, noting that it was actively trying to reach the survivor following widespread public concern over the incident.
The case came to public attention after a TikTok user, identified as Mirabel (@mirab351), shared a video recounting an alleged sexual assault, which has since gone viral and triggered a social media outcry. The hashtag #StopRapingWomen has trended across platforms, with users calling for urgent action against sexual violence and improved protection for survivors.
In her video, Mirabel said the incident occurred on Sunday, February 15. She alleged that after taking medication to help her sleep due to insomnia, she was later woken by knocks on her apartment door and attacked after opening it.
According to her account, she lost consciousness during the incident and later discovered she had sustained injuries. She further alleged that the assailant later contacted her via social media messages, claiming responsibility for the attack and issuing threats. Screenshots of the alleged messages were shared in her video.
In a subsequent post on Tuesday, an emotional Mirabel disclosed that she had attempted suicide but was saved after a friend rushed her to a hospital, where she is currently receiving care.
Reacting to the development, the DSVA said it had taken note of the video circulating online and the concerns raised by members of the public.
“We have taken note of the multiple tags and public concerns regarding a video currently circulating on social media in which a young woman shared her alleged experience of sexual assault,” the agency said.
It added that efforts were ongoing to locate the survivor in order to provide immediate support and intervention.
“Our team is actively making efforts to reach the survivor to offer immediate support and appropriate intervention, and to ascertain her location,” the statement said.
The agency urged anyone with credible information that could help establish contact with the survivor to reach out through its verified social media channels.
“If anyone has information that can help us reach her directly and safely, please send us a direct message on any of our official platforms,” it said.
DSVA also reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to addressing sexual violence and supporting survivors.
“Sexual assault is a crime. Every survivor deserves protection, care, support and justice. All reports are treated with utmost confidentiality and urgency,” the agency added.
