The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has launched a dedicated anti-crime patrol operation along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road in a bid to curb criminal activities and strengthen security on the strategic corridor.
The police said four specialised patrol teams have been deployed to the highway and will operate round the clock to ensure continuous visibility policing and rapid response to incidents.
The deployment, according to the police, is in addition to patrol vehicles and security personnel already stationed along the route since December 2025.
A police source said the initiative is part of intensified efforts to protect commuters, construction workers, and businesses operating along the rapidly developing coastal corridor.
“The patrol teams are to operate 24/7 to ensure continuous visibility policing and rapid response capability along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road,” the police said.
“This deployment is in addition to the existing patrol vehicles stationed on the corridor since December 2025 to deter criminal elements and reassure road users,” the statement added.
The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, a major federal infrastructure project, has witnessed increased economic and human activities following the commencement of construction and expansion works, prompting concerns over security and safety along the route.
Security analysts note that major infrastructure corridors often attract criminal activities such as robbery, vandalism, and kidnapping, making sustained policing crucial to safeguarding investments and public confidence.
A senior police officer, who spoke on the initiative, said the command would not tolerate criminality along the corridor.
“We are committed to ensuring that the coastal road remains safe for motorists, workers, and residents. Criminal elements will not be allowed to take advantage of the ongoing development,” the officer said.
Residents and road users have been urged to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious movements or activities.
Since December 2025, patrol vehicles and police units have been stationed along the coastal route. The newly launched dedicated anti-crime patrol teams represent an escalation of security presence and response capability.
