The Lagos State Informal Space Management Authority (LASISMA) has commenced enforcement actions in the Alagbado/Oke-Odo axis of Lagos, serving contravention notices and marking structures found encroaching on the high-tension right-of-way along the AIT Road.
Officials of the agency, acting on the directives of the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olumide Oluyinka, carried out a strategic enforcement and sensitisation exercise last Tuesday to address physical planning infractions within the corridor.
Representing the General Manager of LASISMA, TPL Daisi Oso, the enforcement team served notices on occupants of affected properties and marked buildings constructed under or too close to high-tension power lines. Property owners were directed to recess their structures away from the designated right-of-way in compliance with safety and planning regulations.
The officials stressed that the operation was necessary to safeguard lives and property, reduce environmental hazards, and ensure adherence to the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, 2019 (as amended).
According to the agency, structures built beneath or in close proximity to high-tension cables pose significant risks to residents and the wider community, including exposure to electrical hazards and obstruction of critical infrastructure corridors.
LASISMA reiterated its commitment to proactive monitoring and enforcement across informal urban and incidental open spaces, noting that sustained compliance is essential to achieving orderly and sustainable urban growth in the state.
In a related development, the LASISMA enforcement team engaged with the leadership of the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to strengthen inter-agency collaboration.
During a meeting with the Chairman of the LCDA, Abiodun Ejigbadero, discussions focused on improving land-use compliance and promoting sustainable development within the council area.
Ejigbadero assured the agency of his administration’s readiness to work closely with LASISMA and other relevant authorities to ensure orderly development and improved urban aesthetics across the LCDA.
The enforcement exercise forms part of LASISMA’s broader efforts to uphold planning standards and promote a safer, more organised Lagos.
