The 23rd Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, on Wednesday inaugurated an eight-member steering committee to oversee the implementation framework for state policing and articulate his administration’s policing vision for the country.
The inauguration, which took place at the Force Headquarters, followed a strategic session between the Inspector-General and members of the Force Management Team, as well as other senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force. During the meeting, Disu outlined his reform priorities and operational direction under his tenure.
The committee is chaired by Prof. Olu Ogunshakin, with CP Bode Ojajuni serving as Secretary. Other members include DCP Okebuchi Ogorah, DCP Sulaiman Goma, ACP Okechukwu Okafor, and SP Tolulope Ipinmiso.
In his charge to the committee, the Inspector-General urged members to approach their assignment with diligence, courage and a results-driven mindset.
He tasked them to be “thorough and bold” in their deliberations and to deliver practical recommendations that would strengthen policing structures across the federation.
The committee’s terms of reference include assessing the feasibility of state policing and proposing a comprehensive implementation strategy. This, the IGP noted, should address critical components such as operational structure, sustainable funding, training standards, and accountability mechanisms.
The initiative forms part of the broader reform agenda aimed at enhancing professionalism, improving service delivery, and aligning policing operations with emerging security realities in Nigeria.
