The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that popular Nigerian comedian and entertainer Broda Shaggi was shot within the state, saying no such incident has been recorded anywhere within its jurisdiction.
The command, however, said it had commenced preliminary investigations to verify the claim circulating in some quarters and determine the true circumstances surrounding the report.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abeokuta, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the police had not received any official complaint or report regarding such an incident from any police formation across the state.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to address reports alleging that the entertainer Broda Shaggi was shot within Ogun State,” Babaseyi said.
“For clarity, the Command cannot confirm that such an incident occurred anywhere within its jurisdiction. Additionally, no such incident has been reported at any police formation across the state.”
He noted that despite the absence of any official report, the command had initiated steps to verify the information in line with its commitment to transparency and professionalism.
“In line with the Command’s commitment to professionalism and transparency, investigations have been initiated to ascertain the facts and verify the claim,” Babaseyi stated.
“The Command is actively carrying out the necessary inquiries to determine the true circumstances surrounding the report currently circulating.”
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and instead rely on official updates from the police while the investigation continues.
“Citizens are advised to rely solely on official police communication while the investigation runs its course,” he said.
Babaseyi reiterated that the command remained committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to the safety of all residents and the maintenance of law and order across Ogun State,” he added.
