The Lagos State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai as the 42nd Commissioner of Police in the state, succeeding CP Olohundare Jimoh, whose tenure ended on March 26, 2026.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, who said the new Commissioner has officially taken charge of policing affairs in Nigeria’s commercial hub.
“CP Tijani Fatai has officially assumed duty as the 42nd Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, taking over from CP Olohundare Jimoh,” the statement read.
CP Fatai, a native of Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, began his educational journey at Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, before proceeding to Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.
He enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on June 10, 1994, and has since built a career spanning operational, administrative, and investigative roles across the country.
“He enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on 10 June 1994 and has served in various capacities across the Force,” Adebisi stated.
Prior to his appointment, the new Commissioner served as Commissioner of Police, Eastern Port, Port Harcourt, among other strategic postings, including Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos.
His career profile also includes roles as Assistant Commissioner of Police in Finance and Administration at Zone 2 Command, Area Commander in multiple locations, Squadron Commander in the Police Mobile Force, and Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lagos.
“His track record of leadership, professionalism, and dedication to duty underscores his preparedness to steer the affairs of the Lagos State Police Command effectively,” the statement noted.
The Command said CP Fatai has reassured residents and stakeholders of his commitment to strengthening security and building on existing reforms within the state.
“The new Commissioner of Police reassures stakeholders and the general public of his commitment to consolidating ongoing reforms, enhancing internal security, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and community partnerships,” Adebisi said.
He also pledged to align policing strategies in Lagos with global best practices while prioritising the protection of lives and property.
“He remains committed to advancing the mandate of protecting lives and property in line with global best practices,” the statement added.
The Command called on residents to support the new leadership as it works to deepen professionalism and improve service delivery across the state.
“The Lagos State Police Command solicits the continued support and cooperation of the public as the new leadership works to deepen professionalism, discipline, and service delivery,” Adebisi stated.
