A three-day-old baby abducted from a residence in Mararaba has been safely recovered by police, with two suspects now in custody.
The Nasarawa State Police Command said the infant was rescued following a swift and coordinated operation by its operatives, acting on credible intelligence.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, in a statement on Friday, said the case was reported on March 29, 2026, by the mother of the child, Aisha Bada, a 19-year-old resident of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, Mararaba in Karu Local Government Area.
According to him, the mother reported that two unidentified men broke into her residence in an uncompleted building at the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa while she slept and abducted her newborn.
“On 29th March 2026, at about 0545 hours, one Aisha Bada reported at the police station that unknown persons had abducted her three-day-old baby boy while she was asleep,” Nansel said.
He added that following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately directed detectives from Mararaba ‘A’ Division to visit the scene and commence a full-scale investigation.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police ordered an immediate response and a comprehensive investigation into the incident,” he stated.
Nansel disclosed that acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested two suspects, Furera Abdulrahman, 35, and Sadiya Abdullahi, 39, on April 3 at about 4:00 a.m., with the abducted baby found in their possession.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives arrested two suspects in connection with the crime, and the abducted baby boy was found in their possession and successfully rescued,” he said.
He further revealed that the suspects confessed during interrogation and implicated an accomplice who is currently at large.
“The suspects have confessed to the crime and provided useful information that is aiding efforts to apprehend the fleeing accomplice,” Nansel added.
The police spokesperson said the rescued infant was taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba, where he was examined, certified to be in good health, and subsequently reunited with his parents.
“The baby was promptly taken for medical examination, certified healthy, and has since been reunited with his family,” he said.
Nansel noted that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further investigation upon completion of preliminary inquiries.
He reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
