Abia Police command has arrested one Ebere Christian Sunday, for allegedly defiling a 13 year old girl Obehie in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
The suspect, according to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, was arrested by policemen at the Obehie Police Division.
Isa said the 27 year old suspect committed the crime along two of his male friends who are currently at large.
He said, “The suspect with two others defiled the 13yrs old girl and threatened her with a knife if she shouts or discloses their act to her mother.
“Suspect has confessed to the crime while efforts are in top gear to arrest other fleeing suspects. Exhibit recovered include, one knife, torn clothes and pants with blood stains. Suspect has been charged to court”.
Meanwhile, two suspects, identified as Chizuruoke Monday and Onyekachi Onyema, are currently in police custody over their alleged involvement in a child-stealing case.
The State Commissioner of Police disclosed that the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Obingwa Police Division for allegedly abducting a two-week-old baby girl belonging to a mentally unstable woman in April 2020, after which they reportedly fled the community.
According to the Commissioner, the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals linked to the crime and rescue the missing child.
He noted that the Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend those who allegedly purchased the stolen baby, describing the development as a serious criminal offence that will be pursued to a logical conclusion.
The police boss further disclosed that the Command has recorded notable successes in its ongoing crackdown on cultism and related crimes across the state.
He stated that a total of 13 cult-related cases have been investigated, leading to the arrest and arraignment of 23 suspects, who have since been remanded in correctional custody.
In addition, 32 arms were recovered during various operations, while five other cult-related cases are currently under investigation.
The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on cultism, assuring residents of sustained efforts to maintain peace, law, and order across the state.
