The Lagos State Government has stepped up efforts to enhance emergency response and public safety, announcing the delivery of 11 fire stations under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Public Affairs Officer of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Maria Fadairo, following the commissioning of key infrastructure projects across the state between April 8 and 9, 2026.
The projects, inaugurated on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, form part of the state’s broader drive to strengthen critical infrastructure and improve service delivery.
A major highlight of the exercise was the unveiling of the Tolu School Complex in Olodi Apapa, Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, a multi-purpose development that integrates education, sports, and emergency response facilities. The complex comprises 36 schools, a modern fire station, and a stadium featuring 19 mini football pitches.
According to the statement, the inclusion of a fire station within the complex reflects a deliberate strategy by the state government to embed safety infrastructure within community hubs.
“The inclusion of a fire station within the complex underscores the State Government’s proactive approach to safeguarding lives and property while promoting community development,” the statement noted.
Also commissioned was a multi-agency complex named after President Tinubu, designed to improve coordination among key public service and emergency response agencies across the state.
Speaking during the event, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Adeseye Margaret Abimbola, said the newly inaugurated Tolu Fire Station has further expanded the state’s fire safety architecture.
“The Tolu Fire Station brings the total number of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service stations to 25, making it the eleventh to be delivered under the Sanwo-Olu administration,” she stated.
She added that the number does not include three additional fire stations currently under construction, with two more expected to be completed before the end of the year.
“This figure excludes three stations at various stages of completion, while two more are expected to come on stream within the year,” Adeseye said.
The Fire Service boss noted that the expansion is expected to significantly enhance response time and operational efficiency, particularly in high-density areas prone to fire incidents.
“The ongoing expansion will greatly improve our response coverage and ensure quicker intervention, especially in densely populated communities,” she explained.
Fadairo, in the statement, emphasised that the projects reflect the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to building a safer and more resilient Lagos.
“These initiatives highlight the government’s dedication to delivering a safer, more resilient, and inclusive Lagos for all residents,” the statement added.
The commissioning of the projects underscores the state government’s sustained investment in infrastructure aimed at protecting lives, strengthening institutions, and improving the overall quality of life for Lagosians.
