President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Tegbe’s appointment is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The nomination, already transmitted to the National Assembly for screening, follows the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over three decades of experience spanning both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
He currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, coordinating development efforts between Nigeria and China.
In addition, Tegbe chaired the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee, inaugurated by the Federal Government in 2025 to drive the execution of Nigeria’s revised tax framework.
The statement further highlighted his experience in the power sector, including engagements with key regulatory bodies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
“The President expects the Minister-designate, upon confirmation, to leverage his extensive expertise to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector,” the statement added.
Adelabu resigned in March 2026 after declaring his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State. His exit followed a directive by President Tinubu requiring political appointees seeking elective office to resign.
