The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its renewed onslaught against violent crime, arresting suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, while also recovering dangerous weapons and vehicles linked to criminal activities.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives arrested two suspects, Elvis Ebroghro (36) and Abiola Adegore (34), both residents of Ometan community, on 12 September 2025.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo had been caught by a community security guard, Abdullahi Mohammed, while attempting to steal a vehicle battery a day earlier.
They reportedly threatened to kill him if he raised the alarm.Based on Elvis Ebroghro’s confession, operatives intensified follow-up operations, leading to the arrest of another key suspect, Lucky Ebroghro.
Further investigations resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, concealed in an isolated building within Ometan and linked to the syndicate.In a separate operation, police rescued a kidnap victim and apprehended members of a notorious gang.
On 8 September 2025, kidnappers abducted a young man at his residence in Ogwashi-Uku, collecting a ransom of ₦2 million before shooting him in the leg for allegedly not paying enough.
Responding swiftly, the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad stormed the bush and rescued the victim with gunshot injuries.
An intelligence-led follow-up investigation led to the arrest of Chukwuebuka Nka (25), from Enugu State, and Uche Okechukwu, from Imo State, at Owerri Road, Anambra State.
The victim’s white Venza SUV was recovered from them.Following further confessions, operatives arrested another gang member, Somto Chukwuma (18), of Anambra State, and recovered the syndicate’s operational Toyota Matrix vehicle and a network jammer device from their hideouts in Ogwashi-Uku.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their professionalism and resilience.
He assured residents that the command will leave no safe haven for criminals, vowing to dismantle criminal networks across the state to restore peace and security.
