Drug traffickers have abandoned two Toyota Sienna buses loaded with 1,455 kilogrammes of cannabis along the Okhokho-Isi Community Road in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State after officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted the vehicles.
The Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the operation took place on October 29, 2025, at about 3:00 a.m.
“The seizure took place on October 29, 2025, at approximately 3:00 a.m., when a team of dedicated officers intercepted two Toyota Sienna buses suspected of transporting a substantial quantity of narcotics along the Okhokho-Isi community route in the Uhunmwode Local Government Area,” Ofoyeju stated.
He explained that both vehicles reportedly departed from Okpuje, a community known for large-scale cannabis cultivation and trafficking.
According to him, the first vehicle, a light blue Toyota Sienna with registration number EPE 545 EV, was found to be conveying 666kg of dried substances suspected to be cannabis sativa. The second vehicle, a dark ash Toyota Sienna with registration number ABC 142 CD, contained 789kg of the same illegal substance.
Ofoyeju noted that no arrests were made during the operation, as the traffickers fled upon sighting the security operatives, abandoning the vehicles and drug consignments.
“The NDLEA is actively pursuing leads and conducting thorough investigations aimed at bringing these traffickers to justice,” he said.
The commander also warned drug traffickers in the state to desist from their illicit activities, stressing that the agency’s ongoing operations reflect its “relentless approach towards eradicating drug trafficking in Edo State.”
He urged residents to support the NDLEA by reporting suspicious activities, assuring that the agency remains committed to safeguarding communities and maintaining a drug-free society.
