In a landmark stride toward institutional reform and professional recognition, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, is set to decorate outstanding officers recently approved for promotion by the Police Service Commission (PSC) in a special ceremony slated for Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The decoration ceremony celebrates officers whose courage, integrity, and excellence have not only set new benchmarks in policing but have also earned them national acclaim.
Topping the list are CSP Shaba Aliyu, named Police Officer of the Year 2023 and now promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police, and SP Sentome Obi, 2024’s Police Officer of the Year, elevated to Chief Superintendent of Police.
Their promotions take effect from December 31 of their respective award years and align with a transparent commitment made by the Force in July 2025, to reward officers who have received back-to-back national recognitions or IGP awards.
The move marks a significant step in reinforcing motivation, professionalism, and meritocracy within the Nigeria Police Force.
To underscore the significance of this recognition, the IGP has directed the deployment of the Police jet to bring both officers to Abuja for their formal decoration.
Their portraits have also been prominently displayed at the main entrance of the Force Headquarters, as well as at Zonal and State Command Headquarters across the country—symbolizing honour, courage, and institutional pride.
“This is how trust is built—from within,” the Force noted in a statement. “It is a new era where excellence is not the exception but the standard.”
Beyond these two honorees, several staff officers at the IGP Secretariat—recognized for repeated commendation over the past two years—will also benefit from accelerated promotions, in line with the IGP’s reform-driven policy.
Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reaffirmed the IGP’s unwavering commitment to celebrating professionalism and boosting morale across ranks:“To our officers across the country: this is your reminder that the job is not thankless. Your sacrifices are seen. Your integrity will not go unnoticed.”
The Nigerian Police Force, under its current leadership, is demonstrating that honour is not just a value—it is a rewardable legacy.
