The Enugu State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its relentless campaign against violent crimes and cult-related activities, arresting six suspects in separate sting operations across the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed in a statement that operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, on 22nd August 2025, arrested four suspects identified as Samuel Chisom Okpubo (23), Steven Agwu (26), Elijah Umah (27), and Ifenre Ifebuche (22).
A firearm, one expended cartridge, substances suspected to be methamphetamine (“Mkpuru-miri”), and other exhibits were recovered from them.
“Their arrest followed the confession of Uzor Okwudili, aged 23, earlier nabbed by operatives of Abakpa Division for cultism, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm,” Ndukwe disclosed.
Investigations revealed that two of the suspects belong to the Black Axe Confraternity, while the others are members of the Vikings Confraternity.In another operation on 19th August 2025, at about 6:30 p.m., the squad, working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, stormed Ogor-Affa in Udi Local Government Area and arrested one Emehelu Nichodemus, popularly known as “SP Fado” (48).
A locally made pistol was recovered from him, and he confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
Ndukwe stated that the coordinated operations have once again disrupted cult and armed robbery networks in the state, stressing that the Command remains committed to eradicating such criminal elements.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reassured residents of ongoing efforts to sustain the crackdown on cultism and violent crimes.
He urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s dedicated hotlines.
