The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 18-year-old Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom for allegedly kidnapping and brutally murdering his five-year-old second cousin, also named Obodoagu Wisdom.
His accomplice, Sunday Michael, a 24-year-old security guard from Mayo-Belwa LGA of Adamawa State, was equally apprehended.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects were arrested on 11th and 12th August 2025 by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad, following credible intelligence after ransom demands were reported.
“The child had been declared missing on July 26, 2025, and investigations revealed that the suspect conspired with his accomplice to demand ₦1 million ransom from the victim’s father, in an attempt to conceal his involvement,” Ndukwe said.
He added that when the ransom was not paid, the prime suspect murdered the child and buried him in a bush near their residence in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime, with the prime suspect later leading operatives to the shallow grave where the victim’s body was exhumed in the presence of medical personnel.
Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, assuring that justice will be served. “The suspects will be arraigned upon conclusion of investigations.
The Command remains unwavering in its commitment to detect and bring to justice perpetrators of heinous crimes,” he vowed.
