The Enugu State Police Command has thwarted an armed robbery attempt at Premier Layout, Enugu, neutralising one suspect and recovering firearms, ammunition, and stolen items.
The incident occurred at about 4:10 a.m. on 6th August 2025, following a distress call to the Independence Layout Police Division.
According to the Command, the Divisional Police Officer, supported by operatives and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, responded swiftly.
On arrival, the gang opened fire, prompting the security team to engage them with superior firepower, leading to the death of one suspect while others escaped.
A search yielded a locally made single-barrel gun with a live cartridge, a locally fabricated Beretta pistol with one round of ammunition, two stolen iPhones, a Nokia phone, ₦9,000 cash, and other personal effects.
Further investigations on 8th August led to the recovery of a pump-action gun with four live cartridges believed to have been abandoned by fleeing suspects.Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, reaffirming the Command’s determination to combat violent crime.
