The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a suspected transnational human trafficker, 30-year-old Raymond Sunday Wonna, and rescued two teenage girls, 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley, both from Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The rescue took place on 30th July 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., when operatives of the Command’s Crack Tactical Squad intercepted the suspect during a routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway.
Investigations revealed that the suspect lured the victims from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the pretext of offering them jobs at a restaurant allegedly owned by his “baby mama” in Ghana, without the knowledge or consent of their families. Further findings indicate he attempted to rape the girls while lodging them in a hotel pending departure.
The victims have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the trafficking network.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives for their swift action and ordered a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking and urged residents to remain vigilant, reporting suspicious activities via the Command’s control room or emergency hotlines.
