The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The declaration was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
The minister congratulated Muslims across the country on the occasion and urged Nigerians to use the celebration as an opportunity to reflect on the virtues of compassion, humility and service to humanity.
Tunji-Ojo also called on citizens to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and continued progress in the country.
He urged Nigerians to celebrate the religious occasion with restraint, mutual respect and a strong sense of responsibility, stressing the importance of peaceful coexistence among citizens.
The minister assured Nigerians that the Federal Government remained committed to safeguarding lives and property and maintaining peace and security across the country.
He called on citizens to support the government’s efforts by remaining law-abiding and promoting peace in their communities during and after the celebration.
