The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has destroyed alcoholic beverages valued at N5.8 million following a series of enforcement raids in Kazaure Local Government Area.
The seizure and destruction, according to the board, are part of ongoing efforts to enforce the state’s prohibition on alcohol consumption and promote moral conduct.
Commander of the Hisbah Board, Ibrahim Dahiru, confirmed the development during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Monday.
He said the operation, which led to the burning of 400 cartons of alcohol, was spearheaded by the Chairman of Kazaure LGA, Alhaji Mansur Dabuwa, and took place after multiple raids on local bars in the area.
Dahiru reiterated that the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited across Jigawa State in accordance with Islamic principles and state regulations.
He emphasized the board’s unwavering commitment to curbing all forms of immoral behavior, including alcohol consumption, and urged residents to cooperate with Hisbah by providing timely and credible information.
He further advised the public to refrain from vices that could threaten the moral fabric of society, noting that Hisbah’s mission is to uphold discipline, decency, and social order in the state.
