The Kebbi State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media report claiming that a retired Assistant Controller of Customs allegedly built a private airport in the Argungu forest to smuggle cocaine and other illicit drugs into Nigeria.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, described the publication as a baseless fabrication aimed at tarnishing the image of the state and undermining public confidence in the Police.
“The Command categorically refutes the publication, condemning it as misleading and orchestrated to discredit the integrity, bravery, and professionalism of our officers who remain committed to combating crime in Kebbi State,” CSP Abubakar stated.
He said the false report was designed to cause unnecessary fear among residents and distract security agencies from their ongoing operations to ensure peace and stability across the state.
“Such publications only serve to embolden unscrupulous elements and undermine the ongoing efforts of the Police and other security agencies to sustain law and order in the state,” he added.
Abubakar urged members of the public to disregard the rumour, warning those responsible for spreading false information to desist from acts capable of inciting panic or damaging reputations.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace, and ensuring that Kebbi State does not become a safe haven for criminals.
“The Command will continue to partner with credible media professionals to keep the public accurately informed about developments in the state, while combating the menace of fake news and its dangers to society,” Abubakar stated.
