Lagos State recorded a significant milestone in 2024 with a 20% reduction in fire-related emergencies, rescuing 450 people from potentially fatal incidents and salvaging properties worth ₦117.12 billion.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu attributed the achievement to sustained investment in modern firefighting infrastructure, deployment of cutting-edge technology, and aggressive public fire safety advocacy.
The report, presented at the Lagos International Fire Safety Conference in Victoria Island, revealed that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded to 1,952 emergency calls in 2024, including 1,607 fire incidents, down from over 2,500 recorded in 2023.
In the past six years, the State Government has established 25 new fire stations, with four more on the way, and added over 60 modern fire trucks to its fleet.
The Governor also announced the introduction of drones for high-rise fire detection and plans to cut emergency response times to under seven minutes.
Despite the progress, 91 casualties were recorded in 2024, and properties worth ₦19.5 billion were lost.
