Lagos State Government has sealed a residential building located at 12, Alfred Williams Street, Iju, Ifako – Ijaiye following reports from a whistle blower that it has been converted to abattoir as a result of the closure Oko Baba Abattoir, Agege.
Acting through the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, the government also arrested three suspects in connection with the violation.
Those arrested include:Musuliu Lawal (70), Baba Tunde Rasaq (58) and Saka Mutairu (38). They are to be arraigned in court.
The sealing was carried officials of Lagos State Environmental Safety Corp (LAGESC) on Monday.
Disclosing this on his Facebook account, the Director Public Affairs, Adekunle Adeshina said the “Ministry of Environment & Water Resources enforcement team on Monday sealed a property on 12, Alfred Williams Street in Iju Station and also arrested the property owner.
“Investigations revealed that following the shutting down of the Abbatoir at Oko-Oba on Friday, the property owner of 12, Alfred Williams allegedly converted his residence into an abattoir where slaughtering of animals was being carried out thus endangering the entire neighborhood through unhygienic practices and circumventing government lawful directives for pecuniary gains.” He added.
He said “This swift response demonstrates our zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of environmental infractions, whether in designated facilities or residential areas.
”Earlier, the agency as part of measures to restore sanity and ensure cleanliness in the shut main p at Oko- Oba, Agege, KAI operatives alongside sister security agencies on Monday commenced the removal of illegal shanties that dot the premises of the Abattoir, providing cover to different questionable characters.
