The Lagos State Government has announced plans to officially launch the Omi Eko Project, a landmark initiative designed to transform water transportation and promote sustainable mobility across the state.
According to a statement by the General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Damilola Emmanuel, the official launch is scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Five Cowries Terminal, Falomo — one of the state’s busiest intermodal transport hubs connecting land and water routes.
Emmanuel disclosed that the event will be graced by top government officials, development partners, and key stakeholders in the transport and maritime sectors.
It will also feature a virtual presentation of the Omi Eko Project and a ceremonial unveiling by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Omi Eko Project, he explained, represents a major leap toward achieving Governor Sanwo-Olu’s vision of a cleaner, smarter, and more efficient transport system, in line with the Lagos Urban Mobility Plan.
“The Omi Eko Project will redefine Lagos’s water transport ecosystem through the deployment of over 78 high-capacity electric ferries, digital ticketing systems, intelligent terminals, and enhanced safety measures,” Emmanuel stated.
He added that the initiative is designed to cut travel times, ease road congestion, and provide Lagosians with a reliable and environmentally friendly commuting alternative, while also advancing the state’s climate resilience and sustainable development goals.
“This project not only strengthens infrastructure across Lagos waterways but also reinforces the state’s commitment to eco-friendly innovation and smart technology,” he added.
The Omi Eko Project, spearheaded by LASWA, marks another milestone in the Sanwo-Olu administration’s efforts to create an integrated, multimodal transport system that connects road, rail, and water transport for a truly modern Lagos.
