The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has commended Lagos residents and motorists for their patience and resilience in coping with traffic diversions necessitated by the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge corridor.
Bakare-Oki gave the commendation during an inspection tour of the project site on Wednesday, where he addressed concerns over the scope and quality of the works.
He assured the public that the reconstruction is being carried out in line with international standards and will be completed within the time frame earlier announced by the Lagos State Government.
“I deeply empathise with our people over the inconveniences caused by this diversionary arrangement. Nonetheless, this rehabilitation is an indispensable undertaking to safeguard lives, strengthen the bridge’s structural integrity, and improve commuting along this vital corridor,” he stated.
The LASTMA boss praised residents for adjusting their daily routines in response to the diversions, describing their cooperation as a demonstration of the resilience and collective spirit of Lagosians.
He also commended LASTMA officers deployed to man the diversion points, noting that no negative reports had been received from the public about their conduct.
Reaffirming the Authority’s commitment, Bakare-Oki said LASTMA officers will continue to provide real-time traffic management to ease congestion and guide motorists during the rehabilitation period.
He urged road users to remain compliant with traffic directives and view the temporary inconveniences as an investment in better and safer infrastructure.
