The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested the General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, Prophet Adefolusho Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, for allegedly orchestrating shipments of illicit drugs into Nigeria.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, August 10, 2025, revealing that operatives stormed the church premises in Okun Ajah, along Ogombo Road, Lekki, on Sunday, August 3.
Officers reportedly waited for the cleric to conclude his evening worship service before moving in to take him into custody.
According to Babafemi, the arrest follows months of manhunt after the suspect fled the country to evade arrest. “The arrest came after he had evaded arrest twice and fled to Ghana since June, when operatives began trailing him following the seizure of two shipments of Ghana Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, linked to him,” the statement read.
The first seizure, weighing 200kg, was intercepted at Okun Ajah beach on June 4, 2025, while another 700kg consignment was recovered from his delivery van on July 6, 2025. Both shipments were allegedly ferried into Nigeria through the waterways from Ghana.
“In his statement, he admitted ferrying the illicit consignments through the waterways from Ghana into Nigeria, adding that he had fled to the West African country to hide after he escaped arrest twice in the recent past,” Babafemi added.
The NDLEA reaffirmed Its commitment to intensifying cross-border surveillance and dismantling drug trafficking networks operating within and outside the country.
