The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded significant successes in its efforts to combat drug trafficking, with several major seizures and arrests made in recent operations.
According to NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s operatives intercepted cocaine consignments concealed in lipsticks and property title documents, bound for the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia, respectively.
A total of 420 grams of cocaine were seized from 84 pieces of female lipsticks, while 280 grams of the same Class A drug were recovered from a property title document.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives dismantled a drug trafficking network led by notorious kingpin Ajetsibo Emami, popularly known as ‘Warri Kinsman’.
The operation resulted in the arrest of Emami and three other suspects, with 24 jumbo bags containing 681 pouches of Canadian Loud, a strain of cannabis weighing 414.2 kilograms, recovered.
The NDLEA also reported the arrest of a businessman, Ajah Johnson Uchenna, his wife Rosemary Uchenna, and their two daughters, Stella Uchenna and Ngozi Uchenna, as well as their family friend Okoro Elijah, for running a major illicit drug distribution network in Lagos.
Other notable seizures and arrests include the interception of 7,660 pills of tramadol 225mg and 200mg hidden in food items at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and the seizure of 718 big balls of skunk weighing 359kg at the Seme border.
The NDLEA’s efforts have resulted in the destruction of over 24,175 kilograms of skunk on 9.67 hectares of cannabis farmland in Osun State, and the seizure of various quantities of opioids and other psychoactive substances in different parts of the country.
The agency’s Chairman, Brig Gen Mohammed Marwa (Rtd) commended the operatives for their dedication and hard work, assuring that the NDLEA will continue to work tirelessly to rid the country of illicit drugs and those who peddle them.
