The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, has successfully repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, to Turkey to begin serving his outstanding prison sentence for fraud.
Huseyin, who was convicted by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court earlier in the year, fled Turkey shortly after judgment was delivered, attempting to evade a sentence of 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days. He reportedly travelled through parts of the Middle East before entering Nigeria, where he sought refuge.
A Red Notice was issued by INTERPOL NCB Ankara in July 2025, prompting member countries to locate and arrest the fugitive. Acting on this request, INTERPOL NCB Abuja launched discreet, intelligence-led operations that eventually led to Huseyin’s arrest in the Federal Capital Territory.
After completing the necessary documentation and working in partnership with international law enforcement agencies, Nigerian authorities repatriated the convict to Istanbul, where he has now been handed over to Turkish officials.
Confirming the development, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the successful operation demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to upholding international justice.
“This repatriation reinforces the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve that the country will not be a safe haven for fugitives or escaped convicts,” Hundeyin stated. “We remain committed to honouring our international obligations, strengthening police-to-police cooperation, and supporting the global fight against transnational crime.”
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, also commended the INTERPOL unit for its professionalism and reaffirmed support for stronger collaboration among global security agencies.
The NPF said more international operations are underway to ensure that criminals fleeing justice in other jurisdictions do not find sanctuary within Nigeria.
