…Urges Public to Disregard False Online Claims, Reaffirms Commitment to Merit-Based Advancement
The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning to officers and members of the public against lobbying for special promotions, following a surge in unofficial requests reportedly targeting the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission.
In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF clarified that the recent wave of accelerated promotions was not arbitrary but a structured recognition of officers who demonstrated exceptional bravery, professional excellence, and outstanding service.
According to the statement, those promoted met stringent criteria outlined in the Force’s reward system, and the exercise should not be mistaken for the beginning of a blanket or indiscriminate promotion scheme.
The Force also condemned misleading reports from an unnamed online platform suggesting that arbitrary promotions were being carried out.
It urged the public to disregard such claims, stressing that the NPF remains committed to transparency, merit, and due process in its personnel management.
Adejobi emphasized that lobbying or influencing the promotion process through unofficial means is unethical and in violation of police regulations.
He warned that any officer found culpable would face strict disciplinary measures in line with existing laws.Reiterating its stance, the NPF called on officers to remain professional, disciplined, and dedicated to their duties.
The Force affirmed that its promotion system will continue to be guided by integrity, merit, and honorable service to the nation.
