A woman has been confirmed dead, while six others sustained severe injuries in a tragic road crash that occurred in the early hours of Sunday around Majidun, inward Ogolonto, opposite the MRS Filling Station in Ikorodu.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the accident involved a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number EPE 494 XM, which rammed into a stationary tipper parked at the roadside.
According to Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, LASTMA, Taofiq Adebayo, preliminary findings revealed that the bus, chartered to convey passengers to a programme in Ogijo, suffered a brake failure. And, the driver, who was reportedly speeding, lost control before ramming into the tipper.
The impact killed a female passenger on the spot, while five other female occupants and one male sustained life-threatening injuries. LASTMA officials said those injured were rushed to Benic Special Hospital, while security personnel evacuated the deceased to the General Hospital, Ikorodu.
The operatives apprehended both the bus driver and the tipper driver, who allegedly attempted to flee the scene. The two were handed over to policemen from Ipakodo Police Division for further investigation. Traffic was later restored after the mangled vehicles were removed from the road.
