The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the truck, allegedly due to brake failure, overturned and crushed the minibus leading to the death of the minibus driver.
The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Taofiq Adebayo said that LASTMA officers on patrol of the area swiftly intervened, rescuing three passengers comprising two females and one male from the wreckage after which the survivors, who sustained no visible injuries, were handed over to Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for medical attention.Adebayo stated that the accident obstructed the flow of traffic, blocking over 50% of the road and triggering heavy traffic buildup across neighbouring streets, such as Shofunde and Olufunlayo.
He added that LASTMA operatives were immediately to the area to facilitate traffic control and diversion to ease congestion and restore order.
The truck driver was arrested while trying to flee the scene by LASTMA personnel. He was later handed over to policemen from Elere police division and Area ‘G’ Police.
