A 28-year-old man, Michael Ayisa, has been arrested in Enugu State for allegedly robbing a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator of ₦200,000 at gunpoint, with police recovering a pistol and an expended 9mm ammunition shell.
The suspect was arrested on October 18 at about 12:26 p.m. by operatives of the Udenu Police Division, with support from members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, at Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Enugu State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrest followed a report that the suspect had robbed a female POS operator at her shop along Old Orba Road, Uhulor, Obollo-Afor, on October 17 at about 9 a.m.
Ndukwe said preliminary investigations indicated that the victim raised the alarm as the suspect fled, allegedly threatening to shoot anyone who pursued him.
He said a pistol resembling a Beretta and an expended 9mm ammunition shell were recovered from the suspect.
“The suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation,” Ndukwe said.
He added that the suspect would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for the arrest and acknowledged the support provided by the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
According to Ndukwe, the commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime and urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the police and other recognised security agencies.
