Detectives of the Ilasan Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested five suspects linked to a violent car-snatching syndicate in Lekki, alongside the alleged buyer of the stolen vehicle.
The breakthrough followed a swift response to a distress report lodged by a taxi driver earlier this month.According to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the complainant reported that on August 1, 2025, three men who had booked his taxi along Platinum Way, Jakande, Lekki, suddenly attacked him mid-ride.
“One of the suspects pointed a locally made pistol at the victim and forced him out of his black Toyota Corolla before fleeing with the vehicle,” Hundeyin disclosed.
Following discreet investigation and intelligence-led operations, detectives tracked down and arrested five suspects: 25-year-old Favour Sunday, 28-year-old Ikot Moses, 35-year-old Dickson Ighobue Harrison, 27-year-old Joshua Adedamola, and 26-year-old Daniel Jonathan.
Hundeyin further revealed that the stolen Toyota Corolla was sold for ₦500,000 to one Wasiu Arinola, aged 40. “The buyer dismantled the vehicle and sold its parts separately. He was eventually traced and apprehended in Ibadan,” the police spokesperson added.
Efforts are ongoing to recover the firearm used in the robbery, trace other vehicles believed to have been disposed of by the syndicate, and ensure all suspects face prosecution.
Hundeyin assured that detectives are widening their net to dismantle every link in the chain.Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the safety of residents.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information that can assist security agencies in their efforts to curb crime.
