The Kebbi State Police Command has foiled a planned kidnapping operation, neutralizing three suspected kidnappers during a fierce gun battle in Shanga Local Government Area.
The success followed intensified patrols around Shanga and adjoining communities, which have been part of the Command’s renewed anti-crime strategy.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, said the operation took place in the early hours of Sunday, August 24, 2025. “At about 2:30 a.m., intelligence revealed that a gang of suspected kidnappers was sighted in the nearby forest along Tungargiwa/Saminaka road, plotting to abduct commuters,” he explained.
On receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Shanga swiftly mobilized a combined team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene.
According to CSP Abubakar, the suspects opened fire on the security team, leading to a fierce gun duel. “Three suspected kidnappers were neutralized in the encounter, while one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and seven live ammunition were recovered,” he stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello Sani, commended the DPO and his team for their bravery and professionalism.
He stressed that the operation clearly demonstrated the Command’s determination to secure the State against violent crimes.
Abubakar also highlighted the vital role played by community members who shared timely intelligence. “This remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the cooperation of residents who alerted the police promptly. Community partnership remains key in our efforts to curb crime,” he said.
The Commissioner reiterated that intensified patrols in Shanga and other vulnerable communities will continue to prevent incursions by criminal elements.
He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station or security agency.
“Prevention of crime remains the best strategy in safeguarding lives and property,” CSP Abubakar noted, assuring residents that the Command will sustain the synergy between police operatives, vigilantes, and community stakeholders to ensure Kebbi State remains safe and secure.
