The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 46-year-old man, Abi Baragon, in connection with a viral video showing the alleged assault of a woman that circulated widely on social media on June 20, 2025.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, operatives attached to the Human Rights Department at the State Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, launched an intense investigation immediately after the video surfaced.
Acting on intelligence and technical support, the suspect was tracked down and arrested on October 13, 2025.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the alleged assault followed the victim’s rejection of the suspect’s marriage proposal after discovering he was already married with four children, an allegation the suspect denied.
“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to assaulting the victim with bottles and stabbing her,”
Iringe-Koko said, adding that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment while police continue an in-depth investigation to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju commended the operatives for their swift response and thanked the public for providing credible information that led to the arrest.
The Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring justice, warning that criminals cannot evade the law. “If anyone commits a crime and runs away, the Police will catch up with you,” Iringe-Koko added.
She confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
