The Rivers State Police Command says it has recorded another major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on car theft and vehicle-snatching syndicates operating across the state.
In a statement, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Police Command, said operatives of the Command’s C4I Intelligence Unit arrested two suspects—43-year-old Abubakar Abdulsalam and 35-year-old Shagari Shehu—on November 20, 2025, at about 1800 hours.
According to her, officers acted swiftly on credible and reliable intelligence, leading to the prompt arrest of the suspects, who were found in possession of two stolen vehicles.
“The recovered vehicles include a white Toyota Hilux with a fake registration number GWA 453 GR and an ash-colour Toyota Corolla with a fake registration number LSD 420 BT. Both vehicles are currently in police custody for discreet investigation,” Iringe-Koko said.
She added that the suspects are undergoing intense interrogation to determine their individual roles in the crime and to uncover any possible links to other vehicle theft incidents within the state.
“Operatives are working to establish their connection to any broader car theft syndicate and to ensure the arrest of other members involved,” she stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju commended the operatives for their professionalism and efficiency, while appreciating residents for their continued cooperation in combating criminal activities.
Iringe-Koko reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
“The Command remains resolute in ensuring Rivers State remains safe and secure for all residents and visitors. We urge anyone with information on similar crimes to come forward and assist the police,” she said.
The Police assured that efforts will be sustained to dismantle criminal networks and improve public safety across the state.
