The Nigeria Police Force has arrested twelve suspects in connection with the armed robbery incident that claimed the lives of Ms. Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, a journalist with ARISE News, and Mr. Barnabas Danlami, a security guard, at Unique Apartments, Katampe Extension, Mabushi, Abuja.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this during a press briefing on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Garki, Abuja.
According to Hundeyin, the arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-driven investigation by operatives of the FCT Police Command, who acted swiftly after the September 29 robbery.
He revealed that digital intelligence analysis played a crucial role in tracking down the suspects linked to the violent attack.
Those arrested include Shamsudeen Hassan, Hassan Isah (22), Abubakar Alkamu (27), Sani Sirajo (20), Mashkur Jamilu (28), Suleiman Badamasi (21), Abdulsalam Saleh, Zaharadeen Muhammad (23), Musa Adamu (30), Sumayya Mohammed (27), Isah Abdulrahman (25), and Musa Umar (31).
Recovered exhibits from the suspects include one locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, a locally made pistol, a pump-action gun, 36 live rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, four mobile phones, two knives, one cutlass, and two flashlights.
“Investigations revealed that the fatal shot which claimed the life of the security guard, Mr. Barnabas Danlami, was fired by one of the suspects, Shamsudeen Hassan, when the guard attempted to stop them from gaining access to the apartment complex,” Hundeyin stated.
He further disclosed that the gang’s firearms were sourced from a supplier in Niger Republic, adding that the suspects had participated in several other robbery operations across Katampe I, Apo, Zuba, and other parts of the FCT.
The Force, he said, extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, assuring that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in ensuring that all individuals connected to this grievous crime are prosecuted in accordance with the law,” Hundeyin affirmed, commending the professionalism and diligence of the FCT Command operatives.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the police with credible information that could aid in crime prevention and detection.
“Investigations remain ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more facts are uncovered,” Hundeyin concluded.
