The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled the official portrait of its Inspector-General of Police-designate, Olatunji Disu, signalling the final formalities ahead of his swearing-in as the substantive head of the Force.
The portrait, released on Tuesday, formally identifies Disu as Inspector-General of Police, underscoring the transition from his acting capacity to full confirmation.
The disclosure was made via a post on X by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who shared the image and confirmed that arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony had been concluded.
President Bola Tinubu is expected to administer the oath of office to Disu on Wednesday during the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), following the unanimous endorsement of his appointment by the Nigeria Police Council earlier this week.
Confirming the development, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that the swearing-in ceremony would be conducted during the scheduled FEC session.
“The swearing-in ceremony will take place during the Federal Executive Council meeting scheduled for the same day,” Onanuga said in a statement.
Disu’s confirmation comes less than a week after President Tinubu appointed him acting Inspector-General of Police, following the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun.
His elevation marks the culmination of swift administrative processes, including the statutory approval by the Nigeria Police Council, paving the way for his formal assumption of office as the nation’s top law enforcement officer.
Observers note that the unveiling of the official portrait is a symbolic but significant step, traditionally marking the transition and institutional recognition of a new Inspector-General within the Force’s hierarchy.
