The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against transnational crime with the successful arrest and repatriation of a high-profile fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China.
The operation, executed by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, underscores the Force’s commitment to ensuring that fugitives find no hiding place within the country.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Dai Qisheng, a notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for violent organized crimes, fled his home country in 2024 after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued a warrant for his arrest.
He was tracked down in Abuja on 8th August 2025 by operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja, who placed him under close surveillance before effecting his arrest.“Following his apprehension, the fugitive was repatriated to Beijing on 15th August 2025 under the framework of police-to-police cooperation facilitated by INTERPOL,” Adejobi stated.
He added that the operation sends a strong message that Nigeria is not a sanctuary for fugitives, emphasizing the value of international collaboration in tackling global criminal networks.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the successful operation, assuring that the Force will continue to strengthen international partnerships through intelligence sharing and operational cooperation.
“The arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng is a clear message to criminals worldwide that the Federal Republic of Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives,” Adejobi quoted the IGP as saying.
