The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has suspended the enforcement of the vehicle tinted glass permit following a court order halting the exercise.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this during an interview on the Africa Independent Television (AIT) on Wednesday.
Adeh explained that the suspension became effective immediately after the command officially received the court order.
“Information reaching me from the office of the PRO is that the order has been received and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” she stated.
She noted that the directive would remain in effect until the conclusion of the ongoing legal proceedings, adding that the police would abide by the rule of law.
“We are waiting for the verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict,” she said.
The police spokesperson further clarified that the tinted glass policy was introduced for security purposes, explaining that some criminal elements had exploited vehicles with darkened windows to conceal their identities during illegal operations.
“The law was not made by us. We are only enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven because some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects,” Adeh explained.
She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to upholding court directives and maintaining public safety while ensuring that enforcement activities remain within the bounds of the law.
