President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, allowing him to remain in office until August 2026.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that the extension is to enable Adeniyi consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives under the Tinubu administration.
These include the modernisation of the Customs Service, implementation of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.
President Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s leadership and dedication, expressing confidence that the extended tenure will further enhance the NCS’s role in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
Adeniyi was initially appointed in an acting capacity in June 2023 and confirmed in October 2023.
