The Police Service Commission (PSC) has disowned an advertisement announcing the commencement of online applications for the 12th Regular Course Degree Programmes of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, describing it as illegal, misleading, and conducted without due consultation with key stakeholders.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday, July 31, 2025, by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC condemned the advert as a clear breach of established procedures and a direct affront to the Commission’s constitutional mandate to recruit into the Nigeria Police Force.
Citing the binding judgements of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, the PSC reiterated its sole authority to oversee police recruitment, including through the Academy.
The Commission also criticized the chaotic and opaque processes recently introduced by the Police Academy, including the imposition of a N6,000 application fee and the centralization of screening in Kano—moves it described as exploitative, exclusionary, and prone to corruption.
It noted that legitimate recruitment must involve the Ministry of Police Affairs, Federal Character Commission, and the Nigeria Police Force to ensure fairness, transparency, and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The PSC therefore declared the advert null and void, warning the public to disregard it. It emphasized that any exercise conducted outside its authority lacks constitutional backing and shall not be recognized.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and lawful recruitment process anchored on stakeholder collaboration and global best practices.
