The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of nine hundred and fifty-two (952) Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to the rank of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs).
The decision was reached during the first plenary meeting of the sixth board of the Commission, held at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
However, the Commission declined the promotion of 176 ASPs who were discovered to have retired from service, as well as three others suspected to have died before the exercise.
The PSC emphasized that promotions would henceforth be guided strictly by service records, integrity, and performance.
Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to demonstrate renewed commitment to professionalism and service to the nation.
He warned that the Commission would no longer condone indiscipline or disregard for established rules and regulations guiding the police service.
Argungu further noted that officers must desist from unauthorized or diversionary actions, stressing that the police force has well-structured channels through which grievances can be addressed.
He said discipline and respect for constituted authority remain key to sustaining career progression in the service.
The PSC Chairman assured the promoted officers that the Commission remains committed to ensuring a fair, transparent, and unhindered career growth system. He pledged that the Commission would protect their interests while also holding them accountable to the ethics of the profession.
Among the newly promoted officers are Maidawa Yakubu, Edwin Thomas, Chagga Yakubu, Sabo Hassan, Omini Dickson, Bassey Alobo, Enyinnaya Ejimadu, Grace Okon, Rose Bassey, Fidelis Offorbuike, Adamu Isa Audu, and Ofem Uket.
Others include Elvina Ochia Chukwu of the FCID Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi Lagos; Kyrian Igwe of Enugu State Command; and Ndidiamaka Onwude of the JWC, B Division, Ebonyi State Command.Also listed are Rosemary Obianuju Egbo of Delta State Command; Tabitha Gotan; Uya Bassey Johnson of Abia State Command; Elizabeth Ajik of NPF-NCC, FCID; Sunday Prince Ajaegbu of 44 PMF Force Headquarters Abuja; and Deborah Danjuma of SPU Base 7 Abuja.
More names include Olowu Yetunde Olatunde of Ogun State Command, Felix Okpaleke of 32 PMF Abakaliki, Zakka Bulus of FCT Command Abuja, Kudirat Elegba of SPU Base 2 Lagos, Isioma Omodion of Delta State Command, Ukpabio Ayi Akiba of Rivers State Command, and Edna Emeh Bassey.
The Commission has formally conveyed its approval to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for immediate implementation.
