The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dankwara Mohammed to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), representing the North-East geopolitical zone.
He replaces DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya, who recently retired from service.
In a statement, the commission’s Public Affairs Officer, Ikechukwu Ani, said the promotion was one of the key decisions taken during the 2nd Plenary Meeting of the Commission held at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall and presided over by the Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd).
Ani disclosed that the Commission also approved the promotion of CP Abibo Reuben to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), alongside the elevation of eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police to substantive Commissioners.
Those promoted include Naziru Bello Kankarofi, Nendel Joseph Gomwalk, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, Morkwap Dongshal, Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf, Cletus Nwadiogbu, Ahmed Mohammed Bello, Abdulraheem Nurudeen, Patrick Daaor, and Umar Mohammed Hadejia.
In addition, 13 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs). The newly promoted DCPs include David Gbenga Ojo, Umaru Bello Bichi, Bala Salihu Jarumai, Makanjuola Abiodun, Shafii Abdulkarim, Mohammed Ajose, Mukter Bello, Mada Mani Adamu, Omololu Vaughan, Linus Ogbodo, Emmanuel Anene Ogbuanya, Tijani Richard Gotom, and Shehu Sambo Bawa Ibrahim.
The Commission further approved the promotion of 44 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), and 412 Superintendents of Police (SPs) to Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs).
Ani noted that the list includes several officers serving across various commands and formations nationwide, including DPOs, administrative officers, and specialists in medical, investigative, and operational roles.
He added that a number of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) were also promoted to Superintendents, while several Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) had their appointments confirmed.
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), congratulated all the newly promoted officers and urged them to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation, emphasizing professionalism, discipline, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
The plenary session, attended by Commissioners including Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Justice Christine Ladi Dabup, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, the Commission’s Secretary, continues on Friday, October 17, 2025.
