The Police Service Commission (PSC) has said it will investigate allegations of bribery and abuse of office levelled against Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Emmanuel Aina by a group of protesters who stormed its corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on Wednesday.
The protesters, operating under the umbrella of the Centre for Human Rights and Advocacy in Africa Network (CHRAAN), carried placards and called for a thorough probe of the senior officer, accusing him of misconduct and abuse of authority.
Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, said the Commission has taken note of the complaints and would ensure that justice is served fairly and transparently.
“The Commission wishes to state that it will look into the complaints and ensure that justice is served to both parties,” Ani said.
“The Commission remains committed to holding the Police accountable for its actions and inactions but also enjoins Nigerians to give the Police the necessary support and cooperation to enable it perform optimally.”
Ani further disclosed that the PSC has launched a whistle-blowing policy to encourage citizens to report corruption or misconduct within the Commission and other institutions under its oversight.
“We urge Nigerians to feel free to blow the whistle on official corruption in the activities of the Commission and the Police. Every report will be treated with utmost confidentiality and seriousness,” he added.
The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and justice in addressing complaints against police officers and ensuring discipline within the Force.
