The Anambra State Government has dismissed eight operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit over the brutal assault and public humiliation of a female corps member, Miss Jennifer Elobor.
The operatives are also set to face prosecution for their misconduct.Speaking on Wednesday at the agency’s headquarters in Awka, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, said the government acted swiftly upon receiving reports of the disturbing incident.
The operatives, who were allegedly on the trail of suspected cultists, were said to have attacked and stripped the corps member — an act the government described as “totally outside the mandate of the agency and utterly condemnable.”
Emeakayi disclosed that the state government has already settled the victim’s medical bills and replaced her damaged belongings, including a laptop and mobile phone. “A public apology has also been tendered to the victim’s family, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and the general public,” he added.
He stressed that Governor Soludo’s administration would not condone acts of unprofessionalism, brutality, or abuse of office by security personnel. “Any officer found guilty of misconduct will face immediate dismissal and prosecution,” Emeakayi warned.
The government further reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in the operations of all security agencies.
Officials noted that the disciplinary action is expected to serve as a turning point in reforming the Agunechemba outfit and restoring public confidence in community security.
