Nigeria’s Super Eagles have moved up to 26th place in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Monday, recording a significant 12-place jump.
The national team rose from 38th following an impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where they finished third.
Under head coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles showed consistency and resilience throughout the tournament, winning six of their seven matches. Their only loss came in the semi-finals, where they were edged out by host nation Morocco on penalties.
Nigeria responded strongly in the third-place playoff, defeating Egypt 4–2 to secure a place on the podium.
The Super Eagles also recorded the highest points gain in the latest ranking, earning an additional 79.09 points.
At the global level, the top 10 teams in the FIFA rankings remain Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium and Germany.
On the African continent, Morocco leads the rankings, followed by Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tunisia, Congo DR and Mali.
Nigeria’s rise in the rankings reflects the team’s strong showing at AFCON and underlines the growing impact of African teams on the global football stage.
