Troops of Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped victims during a coordinated security operation in the Kajuru–Kujama axis of Kaduna State.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Shuaib Umar, disclosed this in a statement posted on the Nigerian Army’s official X handle on Tuesday.
According to Umar, the rescue took place on January 5, 2026, during a series of clearance and dominance operations conducted across Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia and Kagarko Local Government Areas, as well as border communities around Kauru.
He said the operations were aimed at restricting the activities and freedom of movement of violent extremists within the Joint Operations Area.
Umar explained that troops of Sub-Sector 5 were already carrying out clearance operations in the Kujeni area when they received a distress alert on the presence of armed criminals around the Kasso adjoining hills.
“The troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the criminals with effective suppressive fire, forcing them to flee into the surrounding forest,” he said.
Following the encounter, the troops conducted an exploitation of the area and successfully rescued six kidnapped victims.
The victims were subsequently handed over to representatives of Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for reunification with their families.
Commending the troops, the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Sadiq Wase, praised their professionalism and bravery.
He urged the troops to remain on maximum alert and sustain the aggressive operational tempo to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
