The Lagos State Government has confirmed that all public and private primary and secondary schools, as well as government technical colleges across the state, will resume for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, January 12, 2026.
This was contained in an announcement made via a statement issued on Wednesday by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Kayode Sutton.
According to the statement, the resumption date is in line with the approved Lagos State School Calendar, adding that all schools are expected to commence academic and administrative activities immediately upon resumption.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, urged school authorities to comply strictly with approved public health and safety guidelines ahead of reopening.
“School administrators are enjoined to adhere to all necessary public health guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students and staff,” the commissioner said.
He further disclosed that government officials have been deployed to conduct inspections across schools in the state to ensure full compliance with safety standards.
“Relevant government officials have been assigned to monitor and inspect schools across Lagos State to ensure strict adherence to approved safety protocols,” Alli-Balogun added.
The ministry expressed appreciation to teachers, parents and guardians for their continued cooperation and support, while urging them to ensure that pupils and students are adequately prepared for the commencement of the new term.
