The Lagos State Government has announced that a total of 210,465 pupils from public and approved private primary schools participated in the 2025 Universal Basic Education (UBE) Placement Test conducted across 592 centres statewide.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, described the exercise as a major step in ensuring equitable access to junior secondary education.
Speaking during a monitoring visit to some examination centres, including Local Authority Primary Schools in Amukoko, Ajegunle/Ojo Road, and Alaba, Alli-Balogun expressed satisfaction with the smooth distribution of test materials and orderly conduct of the examination.
He emphasized that the test, which incorporates Continuous Assessment Scores (CAS) and Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets, guarantees fairness and objectivity in assessing pupils’ academic readiness.
“This Placement Test is crucial in facilitating the seamless transition of primary six pupils to government junior secondary schools while also capturing out-of-school children willing to continue their education,” the Commissioner stated.
Alli-Balogun reaffirmed the state’s commitment to its “Leave No Child Behind” policy, stressing that education remains free at the primary and junior secondary levels in Lagos.
He urged parents to enroll their children in school, warning that failure to do so could attract penalties under the Child Rights Law, which upholds every child’s right to education
